Colin Farrell Style: Emerald Isle Coolness

By staff
March 19, 2007

With dark, brooding good looks, Irishman Colin Farrell has a knack for being just one of the guys while maintaining a reputation as being a Hollywood scene-stealer. Since his youthful days on the streets in Dublin, Farrell has cultivated a rebellious, fun-loving spirit that is more than apparent in his fashion choices. He clearly seems more comfortable dressed for enjoying a couple of beers with the blokes at the local pub than for attending a formal black-tie affair. Taking a bit of influence from past screen legend rebels like James Dean and Marlon Brando, Colin Farrell’s carefree, working-class style has led him to be one of the most in-demand actors today.

Colin Farrell fashion senseSince he took Hollywood by storm in 1996, Farrell has acted in over fifteen movies and has firmly established himself as more than a chain-smoking bad boy who enjoys punctuating his language with four letter words. He is a natural born actor who has the versatility to play everything from an old-west outlaw to a sci-fi detective. His self-confidence is clearly presented in his swagger and personal style. Farrell simply oozes coolness. He has no need for flashy threads. Rather, he prefers basic t-shirts, slightly rumpled looking dress shirts, and faded jeans. For dressier occasions, he will don a tailored sports coat, but rarely will you see him in a tie.

To achieve your own bad boy image, stick to faded t-shirts, leather jackets, and well-worn jeans. Motorcycle boots can complete your look, and black should be the predominate color in your wardrobe. Even though he is picked as main actor for 2006 remake of Miami Vice, Colin Farrell would never be caught wearing pastels or anything remotely feminine on his own. He is the definition of an “Uber-male.” Confident in his own masculinity, he dresses the part.

While Farrell certainly has the pretty boy features to have his likeness published extensively in the teen magazines, he maintains his tough guy image by wearing a rough stubble and spiky hair. As well, he has been known to shave his head, which only brings out his striking eyes and prominent brows. For a similar look, the trick is to not devote too much energy to grooming. Let your beard grow for a few days, and keep hair short and uncombed. But don’t think that three-day-stubble look doesn’t need attention. You’ll still have to regularily trim your beard.

Colin Farrell’s unstudied approach to fashion and grooming has certainly been a hit with the ladies. From a steady stream of beautiful models to a brief fling with Britney Spears, he has no shortage of luck in the romance department. Perhaps, this is because of his refreshingly uncomplicated presence and approachability.

Without a doubt, Farrell is enjoying his life. He has successfully conquered Hollywood while maintaining his roots firmly in his homeland of Ireland. His uncompromising style is unique in a sea of privileged, overly pampered Hollywood actors. By keeping true to your own roots, while developing a confident take-charge attitude, you, too, can develop a uniquely successful image.
