Rob Thomas Style: Keeping It Smooth

Having been homeless for three years after dropping out of high school, Rob Thomas had some incredibly challenging days before his catapult to rock and roll stardom. Perhaps, his awareness of grit and struggle has influenced his casual, yet confident fashion style. Thomas never seems ill at ease in his clothes, whether it’s a three-piece pinstripe suit with an open collared shirt or a faded t-shirt and well-worn jeans.

Rob Thomas styleTo capture the essence of Rob’s effortless style, look for fashions that are classic with a rock and roll twist. Often seen in suits, he would never be mistaken for a conservative banker. Rather, he completes his look with a funky, wide striped tie and signature hoops in both ears. To highlight his diverse musical range, he will often be seen wearing an ethnic pendant around his neck along with sleek sunglasses. Casual looks include army fatigue jackets, long sleeve, slim fitting t-shirts, and distressed leather belts, boots, and jackets.

Who could ever forget Thomas’ style while he belted out the number one hit, “Smooth” accompanied by Carlos Santana? Fans and critics alike knew that he was no ordinary rock star. His take-charge vocal abilities and self-assuredness were a refreshing change from the self-absorbed, “boy band” look that was so popular a few years ago. He doesn’t need to wear the latest designer fad to grow his fan base. With raw talent and confidence, simple, straightforward fashion allows for his inner strength to shine.

While Thomas’ was known for somewhat shaggy, overgrown hair, he has simplified his look by shaving his own head with a Wahl shaver that he purchased from a drugstore. He finds the new style liberating and better for performing on stage. With his sleeker do, he has put more emphasis on designer eyewear and colorful shirts and ties. To recreate his clean, edgy style, keep hair less than one inch in length, and use styling wax to add texture and shine.

With a streamlined wardrobe consisting of a couple of suits, some broken-in jeans, and a selection of stylish shirts you can recreate the fashion of Rob Thomas. However, it is more than clothes that define his style. It’s his confidence in his own strengths and talents that makes him so notably, well put-together. With the ability to strut your stuff and an uncompromising sense of self, you, too, can grab the limelight.
