10 Reasons Why You Should Listen to Women for Grooming Advice

By Meieli Sawyer Detoni

We’re great at telling you what’s up in the world of grooming. Here’s why:

1. The next time a woman mentions body hair removal, don’t flinch: we’re pros. Plus, there’s an added bonus to listening to our suggestions: you get a helping hand for back waxes and depilatories, if you agree with us after all.

2. Everyone needs feedback! Why not look for it from the side that you’re trying to attract? It’s field research, and that goes a long way. You could experiment endlessly and you may never get your look just right. Perhaps that goatee isn’t quite right for you, but you’re set on it and you won’t let go. . .

3. You should spend particular attention to something that a significant other tells you. They aren’t being callous (unless you’re in a fight, of course), and they’re most likely letting you know about areas you could improve on to make you sexier. It’s coming from the heart, people!

4. Women aren’t competing with you. There are no ulterior motives when they’re giving you feedback (if they know you well enough, and if you trust them, that is) so you don’t need to blindly follow hair and style trends without guidance.

5. Women can be far more helpful if you need a shopping buddy. If you’re a “man’s man,” you may find it hard to find the right shopping partner. There are a lot of women out there (myself included, people) who’d like to go shopping no matter what, and that includes for bath gels and electric shavers.

6. You’ll get opinions. Women definitely know when something is totally ugly that some men—yep, including your friends—may find acceptable. Cutting off your sideburns completely, letting your beard get too busy, or not cutting your hair may seem like a great idea, but the womenfolk just aren’t digging it.

7. You’ll be able to get the scoop on products not marketed for men (yet). Men’s products are perfect when they’re formulated for shaving, but some skin care products for women hit the shelves for a while before they get reformulated for men. You can be a guinea pig and potentially find some interesting pieces.

8. You’ll end up with a pretty impressive knowledge of grooming supplies. You’ll be able to surprise anyone with a super sexy gift of grooming related products, from awesome mint shampoo to kiwi-guava hand cut soaps. That’s a skill, sort of.

9. As a general rule, most women want to see the same thing, so once you’ve gotten the hint, you can follow the rules again…and again.

10. For all the colorblind guys out there, women can provide essential matching techniques to go with your hair color and skin type. If you’ve spent all that time grooming yourself to perfection, isn’t that the icing on the cake?

  1. I personally do not like the majority of women taste when it comes to the clothes they think I should wear however, I am truly open to her accessorizing me, buying shoes and as stated here, grooming!

I have a female barber who understands what a woman wants to “look” at and she does a great job transforming me into such. She also recommend grooming products she hears about from other clients she says has “great skin”.

It’s a nice change when a woman complements my skin, both softness and even-ness, keeps me going back to my barber for more of her useful insight.
