Dry Skin Care

Dry skin careDo you have dry skin? If you’re not sure, then think carefully about your skin’s usual appearance. Does it look flaky and thin, or feel tight? Does your skin care regime means applying moisturizer day and night to get a good balance of softness with suppleness?

If this sounds like you, then listen up: you need to give extra-care with this skin than you do with other types, because it’s very sensitive to cleansing, as well as unnecessary dragging and pulling. Dry skin can feel a little tight or masklike. Worse yet, if your skin is dry, it can lose its elasticity faster—making you look older! That’s never a good thing, so make sure you follow our dry skin care steps closely to ensure that your skin looks and feels its absolute best.

Cleansing

When cleansing dry skin, use gentle products. No alcohol-based cleansers allowed! They will just strip your face of any natural oils. Instead, try cleansing milk, which won’t dry the skin and will leave it well hydrated. The Body Perfect has a great cleansing milk called Morning Glory for a great price.

When your dry skin gets tight and dry, you may be tempted to dowse you face with water. Try to avoid doing that: dry skin needs hydration, but that doesn’t necessarily mean water. Avoid all hot showers, because your face will dry out too much afterwards.

Sometimes, especially in the winter, dry skin will tighten and flake even with a lukewarm splash of water. If dryness is severe, use an emulsion cream that doesn’t contain much water. Remove the cream with cotton wool after applying for soft results. Try Babor Vita Balance Day Cream, which provides a luxuriously creamy emulsion that also soothes facial irritation—perfect for shaving bumps and ingrown hairs.

Shaving

Shaving can be very irritating for dry skin, so shave carefully and use as many gentle, high-moisturizing products as you can find. Apply a thick layer of shaving cream to protect your skin. If you are using an electric razor, don’t shave at the closest setting—it’s too irritating. Stay away from harsh after-shaves, which will just tighten dry skin further. Apply a lotion that doesn’t contain ethyl or isopropyl alcohol. Nivea has a perfectly formulated dry skin care products including after-shave balm.

Moisturizing

If you are not moisturizing regularly, now’s the time to start! Dry skin is quickly damaged, so you need to provide daily protection against the elements. Moisturizers, for all skin types, are essential. For dry skin care, moisturizing is even more important, protecting your skin against damage, while lending important suppleness and softness. Good moisturizers for dry skin include Origins Antioxidant Moisturizer with White Tea or their Extra Rich Moisture Cream.

The Extras

You can jazz up your dry skin care by using a serum to smooth your skin even further. While it’s not a total requirement, you will see positive effects if you use one. Fine lines will diminish, and you’ll have a healthy skin aura—definitely something to think about. One product which can be used along with your favorite moisturizer is their Guinot’s Comfort Gel Serum, which can be applied morning and night. It relieves roughness, tightness, and an overall dull appearance.

Some fruits and fruit butters will moisturize your face incredibly effectively, and naturally, too. One of the best products out there is Sundari’s Omega 3 and Raspberry Tonic Water for Dry Skin. It’s an alcohol-free refresher pepped up with a good dose of exotic additions, including Guggulu extract. Guggulu extract will sooth skin, while raspberry has welcome antioxidant properties for all skin types. You can use Sundari’s Tonic Water as either a facial spray or as a night toner.
When it comes to dry skin care, you’ve got to be informed. If you follow skin care instructions the best you can, then you’ll avoid most of the problems that you may have been troubled with in the past. Make sure that you re-evaluate your skin every year and add products that you may need, such as a fine line reducer or an undereye circle brightener. Just remember, keep your routine as gentle as possible.
