Dandruff Solutions

For all the jokes about dandruff, people who suffer from it aren’t usually the ones laughing. They’re too busy scratching their heads trying to find out best dandruff solutions. They also feel like they’re the only ones in the world with this problem. Nothing could be further from the truth, though, because one out of three people suffer from dandruff. Still, while dandruff is certainly annoying and often embarrassing, it doesn’t pose a health threat, and with the right dandruff solutions it can be successfully treated.

dandruffOne of the most common myths about dandruff is that it’s caused when someone doesn’t wash his hair often enough. Another is that it’s the result of poor hygiene habits. While it’s true that infrequent hair washing can sometimes aggravate a case of dandruff, that isn’t what causes it. The truth is that dandruff is caused simply because some people shed skin cells more quickly than others.

There are several reasons a person may develop dandruff. Genetics most certainly play a role - if your dad or brother has or has suffered from dandruff, you’re likely to have it too at some point in your life, especially because more men have dandruff than women. Other factors that contribute to dandruff are excessive sweating, food allergies, certain medications, yeast infections, food allergies and stress. Climate can also play a role - cold climates tend to bring on dandruff and are known to make it worse.

So what are dandruff solutions? You have a big sales presentation coming up or there’s a special woman you’re, pardon the pun, itching to ask out, but you just can’t bear the thought of doing either of these things with those white flakes drifting from your head to your shoulders. Relax. There are many dandruff solutions to fight the battle against dandruff, and more importantly, win!

One of the main dandruff solutions is over-the-counter shampoo. Some herbal remedies may be helpful too. When trying to decide which dandruff shampoo to try, the choices can be a bit confusing. Too make it easier, look for ones that have the five FDA-approved active ingredients in them. Those ingredients are: coal-tar preparations, pyrithione zinc, salicylic acid, selenium sulfide and sulfur. The FDA has also recognized a combinations of salicylic acid and sulfur as dandruff solutions. So read the labels carefully and follow the instructions closely for the best results. You may use one shampoo only to find it stops working after using it for a few months. Simply switch to another one for a while. You may need to do this several times to keep your dandruff under control.

There are some other dandruff solutions you can do to win the war against dandruff. Make sure you’re using a natural bristle brush. Brush your hair with firm strokes, moving the brush from your scalp outward to move oils and dead skin cells away from your scalp. Cut back on the number and amounts of hair products like mousse, gel and hair spray. Also, try not to stress out over your dandruff problem. Stress only makes dandruff, like everything else, worse.

If you try all these dandruff solutions without seeing noticeable results within two-four weeks, see your doctor. There are also prescription dandruff solutions available. Whatever you do, don’t give up. Just keep looking for the solutions that works for you. It’s out there - and that’s a promise.
