How To Grow A Goatee

Growing a goateeAre you looking for a facial hair style to update your look? If you’re thinking about growing a goatee, there are some simple rules to follow to keep yourself looking your best.

The style of goatee you want is up to you. Keep trends in mind while shaping goatee—a new look should never be passé. The hottest goatee now is a bit of a hybrid style. It’s a variation on the simple goatee, with a thin moustache, a small patch of hair under the chin, and another patch of hair on the chin. It’s very in, and will flatter a variety of face shapes.

Tips

Goatees need to be cultivated, not ignored, for a successful effect. Don’t just let your facial hair go untamed and think that your goatee is an end result. Even knowing how to grow a goatee sometimes isn’t enough. Some men may be unable to grow one. It’s the first few days after you stop shaving that will really determine if you can grow it and also if it will suit you. After a few days of facial hair growth, you’ll have a much better idea about the type you want—if it suits you after all.

Avoid the temptation to grow a little extra stubble. While it’s good on its own, when it’s next to a goatee, it just looks messy. For weekly upkeep, it’s best to find a professional in your area to keep you looking sharp.

To shape your goatee, keep in mind that the outer edges should never extend past the smile lines of your face. Avant garde goatees are, well, rather disconcerting, so aim for symmetry. Make clean corners at the jawline. Try a trimming tool to keep everything neat, usually from 3/8ths to 3/16ths. Remember to move the razors or clippers every which way—hair grows in every direction and you want to catch all of the strays. If you’re going after loose stubble, try a Wahl’s Groomsman XL.

Finishing Touches

Now you’ve got the style, but perhaps you’re not completely convinced with your density or overall look. If your goatee is a bit sparse but the look suits you, there are some techniques to try, but the bad news is that there’s no way to make your goatee grow thicker. Hair density is genetic, but there are some hair products will help your goatee look full, such as a tiny dab of American Crew Thickening Lotion or Oomf Booster by Fudge.

Perhaps you’ve also heard that shaving your goatee more regularly will result in thicker hair. Wondering if it’s true? Sadly, not quite, but this could help: hair doesn’t grow in denser, but it could grow in coarser, which is a plus for thinner goatees.

No matter what style you choose, simplicity is always the best. Try for uncomplicated styles that will lighten up grooming time. No woman likes an out-of-control facial hair, so decrease daily maintenance and up your sex appeal with a neat look. Some products will make upkeep easier. Give the Unique Shave Solution a chance—it’s incredible. Five drops of the shaving product will make up for an entire shave. Once activated with water and applied, it tingles your skin as it straightens out hair follicles. And the great news? The product is clear, so you can see exactly where you’re shaving—perfect for precision goatees.

Goatees, like any other facial hair style, are a little bit trial-and-error to begin with. This is normal, and if you follow our tips, you’ll avoid common mistakes and get a great looking goatee faster. Just don’t forget that your goatee should complement your hairstyle. A goatee is like a new pair of jeans: you need to be wearing a great shirt to complete the look!

  2. I was wondering if you knew of any sites I could look at to specificly find out what style beard I grow?? Right now I have a goatee style, I beleive. Here is a description: on frontal part of chin about 1/2in to 3/4in diamiter and about 1 1/2inches long and it is seperated in the middle by about 1/2 inch between each diamiter I usually have a type of stach with it. If you could e-mail me any information you have about beard styles it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much. David
