Trend Report: Double-Breasted Blazer
From a classic black to updated shades and styles, men’s double-breasted blazers are back. With a boost from the popularity of peacoats for the past two seasons, the double-breasted blazer is great pick right now for all savvy men who want to upgrade their style points and give their look a real boost.
Runway looks are surprisingly doable this season. ‘60s style double-breasted blazers have slim shoulders and an even slimmer overall silhouette. No baggy or exaggerated shoulder widths allowed: everything’s tucked in and trimmed down with this season’s double-breasted styles.
Double-breasted blazer will make you look more mature and formal, so if that’s the look you’re going for, then by all means, try it out. This blazer is undoubtedly gentlemanly: enduring James Bond style provides plenty of inspiration for this season. In an understated navy, you’ll look sharp in every ensemble.
Go for cool combos when you’re working your double-breasted blazer in a casual setting. With a large emphasis on details this season, try a blazer with some updated buttons, emblems, or a slight change in silhouette, such as a slimmer fit for this fall. Paired with a skinny tie and a few layers, your suit will look right at home.
Darker colors are accented with brighter and lighter touches this fall and winter, so don’t just get one in basic navy. Try some accents in these colors to get your look right up to speed for this year, like a touch of camel, taupe, brown, or cream with your blazer.
Not sure if you can pull off the double-breasted look? It’s true that double-breasted blazers look best on slimmer men, so if you’re a bit larger, this might not flatter you as well as a single-breasted jacket might. A double-breasted jacket will make the plump look even more so! If you are a tall man, then this blazer is more likely to suit you, too.
Looking for a complete classic to round out your wardrobe and usher in the trend? Arnold Brant has a navy double-breasted beauty in 100% Italian wool, complete with tailored details and side vents. If you are going the designer route, Dolce & Gabbana has very elegant double-breasted suits on display, while Valentino offers double-breasted designer versions in brighter, bolder designs. Versace’s new suit shapes for 2006-2007 are slim, slim, slim all over, with a square-shouldered jacket (best paired with slim trousers). Check out LA-based designer Waraire Boswell to find a look that combines unusual colors with an emphasis on preppy standard like our season’s favorite double-breasted blazer, along with other beautifully-cut suits and coats.
Double-breasted blazers will always be in fashion, but they are very hot right now. They are one of the best options to add a few style points to your repertoire: a double-breasted jacket will guarantee you an elegant look, and that’s never a bad thing.
