Men’s Fall Shoe Trends

Your shoes need to make the best of your outfit, so if you’re out for the night, heading off for work, or (gulp) on a first date, make an honest evaluation of your shoes status. If it’s been a while since you’ve been on a trend watch, it’s time to get back in the saddle. Just a slight update in your look will do wonders.

Trends to watch

For work

fall shoe BallyIf you crave a touch of the eccentric, try Breda from Bally, the monkstrap shoe. The shoe has a great, traditional shape, but with an off-center buckle, it simply oozes charm. If you want to go for something more traditional, perhaps go for a British made shoe. The English gentleman look is popular, so go all the way with an oxford from Kenneth Cole or a lace-up from Givenchy.

The bottom line: good classic footwear is always in, and a loafer is a good staple for any man to have. Ditch the tassels and go for something more streamlined. Ben Sherman and Gucci have the newest and most updated loafers for your fall wardrobe. If you must go for the tassel, then try Paul Smith’s loafers, which are understated and far from loudly adorned. They’ve got just a subtle mini-tassel in white to satisfy.

Fall shoes Gucci Avoid overly square-toed shoes. The new shape is slightly more rounded and less extreme. This is particularly good if you’re on a budget, because the new shapes will be less dated and will last you for more than one season. Salvatore Ferragamo offers a slightly-squared off Lerwick lace-up, and Kenneth Cole goes one step further with an understated lace-up called New York Pay Day. This shoe has a slim, taped toe, with just a little bit of a blunt tip, a nod to squared-toe styles.

For play

Whether you grab your sporty trainers for work or not, they’re still a great way to spruce up weekend wear. Subtle sneakers complement weekend jeans better than old shoes and are just as comfortable. Casual trainers are sporty enough to carry you through the weekend, but carry you through the weekend with panache. Apply color trends to your choices: fall colors to watch out for include suedes in beige, navy, green, and brown. Converse shoes might be making a comeback, so go original in a classic Chuck Taylor, or pull on a pair of Converse’s newer Baboo Mens Low in Chocolate/Parchment color.

For casual situations where you need attractive but comfortable footwear, you should try a driving moccasin. A. Testoni offers great pairs for this fall in a warm brown leather and a soft, causal sole.

There are many casual shoes that can be worn to work, too, so don’t let that limit your options. If you’re not strictly casual, then both lace shoes and loafers can look dressed up and understated depending on what you choose to pair with it. Try a lace-up style sneaker in polished leather for total casual-day comfort at work.
