Fall/Winter Shoe Trends for Men

By staff
March 22, 2007

What are hot shoe trends this year? It all depends on your style and needs, of course, but there are some great shoe trends this year in men’s shoes, from dressy to casual to fun. If you’re looking to add one or two pairs to your collection this year, a number of styles work well for both business casual and weekend wear. If you’re up for a bit of fun, consider a pair of Western style boots. It’s all out there waiting, but first, a few essentials.

What color shoes should you get? Basically, shoes should match or be darker than your pants. For dress pants and business attire, this is easy to figure out. For jeans, black, navy, and browns are all good choices for both casual shoes and boots (just avoid really dressy shoes with jeans). Choose socks that match or compliment your clothing. Avoid loud socks that scream out from the bottom of your pants–nothing can ruin a good outfit faster. If you’re wearing a belt, for the last time: match the leather colors!

Overall, aim for shoe colors that compliment the total look–brown shoes with khaki pants, black dress shoes for a business suit, etc. A bit of common sense goes a long way here. If in doubt, get a second opinion (and not necessarily the one of the shoe salesperson).

Dress Shoes

Via Spiga - Boater (Black Abbrasivato) - Men's This season’s dress shoe trends are streamlined and sophisticated. With simple lines and minimal embellishments, the dress shoe trends this fall are making an understated statement. The dress shoe this year combines a bit of nostalgia taken from classic looks of days gone by with the added comfort that is only available from today’s technology. If you’re adding a dress shoe this season, spend the money on the quality and comfort, as this look will be in shoe trends for years to come.

Casual Shoes

To Boot New York - Laguna (Black With Black Ballistic Nylon) - Men's Designer Collection Men’s casual shoe trends range from the loafer to athletic shoes and everything in between. When looking for the casual shoe to compliment weekend wear or the business casual look, let your personal style be your guide. This is an area where you can let your inner fashion guru out to play. Consider a Doc Martin casual loafer with a dressier jean and sport jacket combo, for example, and you’re ready to hit the town in style.

Boots

Chippewa - 12 Whether worn for fashion or function, boots can be an amusing addition to any wardrobe. Both fashionable and functional boots are available, both promising a lot of style. Functional, stylish boots tend to follow the dress shoe trends, offering new styles with simple, classic lines. Boots are understated enough to make a strong fashion statement in subtle style. The casual boot can be dressed up or down and remain. If you’re looking for a bit more expression, consider the western-inspired boot or take the plunge and consider a custom-made cowboy boot. These range from solid colors to full-out multi-colored designs; your imagination (and budget) is the only limit.
