Many wardrobe items experience a renaissance. It is well known that even fashion has its limits; classic designs are rarely bettered, and instead of replacing what works, designers merely alter and sometimes improve timeless pieces.

The necktie has ballooned and dieted more than a narcissistic Californian; a tiny slither one minute, a vast kipper the next. Shirts had frills, and then no frills; the fact remained that it was still a piece of cloth which buttoned down the centre of a man’s torso. (more…)

Humor and Rehashed Eighties Fashion Defines Spring/Summer 08 Season According to Paris

Paris has returned to fun, whimsical and albeit downright disturbing interpretations of menswear for the Spring/Summer 08 season, perhaps to the dismay and chagrin of many, though they have succeeded in challenging the status quo, which they say fashion is supposed to be anyway. Balenciaga left us with a series of modular sweaters, odd open toed lace up shoes and an eclectic collection of leather coats which often preferred a three/quarter length as opposed to the high waist, one typically associates with European fashion. Runway models wore bright silk boxers with suit coats poking fun at the establishment, which sort of rocks. (more…)

Dior’s New Direction Has Fans Torn Between the Future and the Past

Much has been made of Kris Van Assche taking over Hedi Slimane’s old position at Dior; so much perhaps that fans of the direction that Hedi Slimane had steered the age old company have a volatile, almost vehement reaction against the loss of what they perceive as the Dior they had grown to love, as opposed to what was perhaps your grandfather’s Dior. In the fall of 2006, on Styleforum.net and Superfuture.com, two sites dedicated for the most part to men’s fashion, “Where can I get a W+H tiger fleece slim black hoodie?” was a commonly posted question. The previous winter season, the durable, fitted hooded fleece sweatshirts made by the brand then named “Spruce” (the name was changed to W+H because of copyright problems) had become quite popular on the fora, where mania for a specific article of clothing can be contagious.
