Season’s Key Trends
This seasons trends are as varied as they are stylish, this means that there is something moving down that catwalk for everyone. Whether you spend all day at the office or adhere to a more casual setting, you’ll be able to find a vogue to suit you perfectly. Here are some of the key trends this season, as demonstrated by those who carry them perfectly!
Retro
This old school style is probably best displayed by the likes of Adam Brody, and is easily achieved. This is the perfect look for during the day, it’s cool, it’s casual and it’s minimal effect chic.
How To
Above the waist: Novelty t-shits are ideal, but I’m not talking Disney characters, there are a great range of old school logo shirts out there, alternatively try a striped polo shirt. Team these with a vintage style track top. Accessorise with a beanie, not only will this look great but it’s practical too.
Below the waist: A decent pair of jeans is a must, try a worn, washed out effect but avoid too many rips (retro doesn’t mean scruffy), wear with a pair of classic converse all stars to finish the look. For the retro jean Edwin use great hand dyed cottons and are perfect for this style, but you can get the worn effect from most designers right now.
Tip: If you’ve chosen jeans that are slightly more worn and have opted for the frays and the odd tear keep the t-shirt simple, this could easily become more crowded that retro!
Preppy
Picture Kanye West to achieve this sophisticated and classic look. Think yachting, think high class, this is what mothers want to see attached to the arm of their daughter.
How to
Above the waist: Chose a plain polo shirt, and don’t be afraid of paler pinks, yellows and blues (these are not feminine, and wearing them is actually a testament to your masculinity!). Spruce the outfit up with a knitted pullover, and or casual blazer. Many designers are catering for the preppy look, Ben Sherman and Penguin have particularly great ranges.
Below the waist: This look works with jeans, but for a little extra urbanity wear a great pair of khakis, and finish with a comfy pair of loafers.
Tip: This is a sophisticated look, so act refined and you will carry it off. Accessorise with a scarf for that final statement.
Suit Up
Bond… James Bond! The ultimate in class, just because you are limited to the daily confines of the office does not mean that you cannot be trendy this season.
How to
Above the waist: This season is very much focused on the slim fitting, double breasted suit. Stick to a more lightweight fabric, to avoid a bulky appearance. In terms of shirts, keep it plain and colourful, again do not be afraid of the softer colours, and combine with a pea coat to complete this high end executive style.
Below the waist: Well tailored trousers adhere perfectly to this seasons trend, and keep the colours light, beige and soft browns, Brad Pitt is one of many to follow ’suit’. No trainers please! With this season comes a great range of loafers from H by Hudson to Gucci.
Tip: ‘man bags’ are an absolute must, and are everywhere, in keeping with trends chose between leather and canvas. Go and get one! This look can easily toned be down to smart casual, without losing any class, if you’re going out straight from the office, lose the tie and jacket and role the shirt sleeves up…it works…
Rock
I said there was something out there for everyone, so if you don’t work in an office and wouldn’t be seen dead in a pair of Khakis this may be more your style. Think Billie Joe Armstrong, but less eye liner.
How to
Above the waist: You cannot fail this look with a black shirt, slightly fitted, baggy won’t work so well. Accessorise with a skinny tie, plain coloured or black/ colour strips.
Below the waist: Skinny fit jeans are the epitome of edgy, rock wear, and available from a range of designers from Replay to Lee. Darker colours are more flattering and go better with this style. Wear a pair of Chelsea boots under the pant leg for the perfect silhouette.
Tip: Depending on the level of rock in you, you can finish the ensemble with dark eye make up, or if that’s somewhere you’d rather not venture a studded belt is rock enough for most.
