40 Luxury Shirt Brands All Stylish Men Should Know

From warm winter flannels to breezy summer Cubans, these are the high-end brands making the best button-ups in the world right now.

Words by: Ryan Thompson

Shirts might not have evolved all that much in the last century or two, but if it ain’t broke, as they say…

Collars and cuffs still form an integral part of the menswear wardrobe, whether it’s formal business shirts, breezy resort linens, or fashion-forward bowling shirt silhouettes and silk Cuban collars.

To help upgrade your current rotation, we’ve rounded up some of the finest luxury shirt brands in operation today, from the sartorial specials and masters of casual to the fashion houses making moves with their designs.

The best luxury dress shirt brands for men

Pini Parma

A dress shirt is a dress shirt until you’ve tried one made by craftspeople who really know their stuff. Pini Parma employs some of Italy’s best shirtmakers to ensure you notice the difference when you put theirs on.

Extra room under the arms, sewn-in collar stays, subtle pleats at the shoulder, double cuffs at your wrist – these details, coupled with exceptional fabrics, make the label’s shirts some of the finest dress shirts you can buy. They come in a range of collars and fits, while banker stripes add something different to the staple palette of whites and blues.

Charvet

One of the oldest of the old-school French luxury houses, Charvet is a largely bespoke shirt and tie maker of the very highest quality and has been producing its fine garments for the world’s elite since 1838.

Located at 28 Place Vendôme, Paris, it was the first shirt shop in the world so the fact that it is still around today is a testament to its unparalleled quality. The shirt collection is phenomenal and focused almost exclusively on the formal/business side, so don’t expect to find any soft-collar button-downs you can wear with shorts.

If you shop at Charvet, you’ll probably be looking for some nice cutaway collar shirts to complement your extensive bespoke tailoring collection.

Hawes & Curtis

British heritage brand Hawes & Curtis lives on Jermyn Street and has been in the shirtmaking business since 1913. Much like Thomas Pink, the brand specializes in formal shirting (although they do produce a broad range of shirt types).

In terms of value for money, Hawes & Curtis has one of the best offers in the industry, without scrimping on quality (it uses two-ply 100s cotton for a good number of its styles).

Turnbull & Asser

An icon of Jermyn Street shirtmakers, Turnbull & Asser has been constructing the world’s finest bespoke shirts since it was founded by John Turnbull in 1885 (Ernest Asser, a salesman, joined in 1893).

Now under the creative direction of Becky French, the heritage brand and Royal Warrant holder has evolved its offering to include tailoring, knitwear, outerwear, loungewear and even Japanese selvage denim, all constructed with an outstanding level of detail.

As you would imagine of a heritage brand, the style doesn’t deviate from classic menswear silhouettes for smart and elegant dressing.

Emma Willis

Another of Jermyn Street’s acclaimed bespoke shirtmakers, Emma Willis’s shirts are made in a historic 18th-century townhouse in Gloucester by some of the industry’s most skilled artisans. Her bespoke and made-to-measure collections are excellent, while the ready-to-wear offering is of an exceptional level.

Although classic business shirts make up the mainstay of the business, Willis’s cotton and linen casual shirting is beautiful and comes in a vast array of fabric options and tones.

Budd Shirtmakers

Established in 1910, Budd has been making the finest bespoke, made-to-measure and ready-to-wear shirts from its boutique in London’s Piccadilly Arcade, garnering a reputation for outstanding quality.

The bulk of Budd’s expertise lies in crafting high-quality business shirts, but it also does a fine line of safari shirts and linen resort shirts. If all of your seasonal collars and cuffs came from Budd, you’d have a very sophisticated wardrobe.

Charles Tyrwhitt

A feature on London’s Jermyn Street since 1997, Charles Tyrwhitt has earned a reputation for producing high-quality, great-value dress shirts. The brand may not be in the same league as some of the ateliers and bespoke makers on this list, but it does an excellent job of providing very good business shirts at an affordable price.

The shirts come in a variety of different fits and collars styles so if you’re looking to bulk out your business wardrobe, it’s an excellent place to do so.

100Hands

Amsterdam-based 100Hands is a bit of an industry secret and has been quietly expanding in the last few years, albeit still under the radar. Thirty-four hours of handwork go into the crafting of every shirt, ensuring incredible quality.

The fabric options are excellent too, from super-high-quality organic cotton to soft Japanese chambray. As Permanent Style‘s Simon Crompton has said: “100Hands makes perhaps the finest shirts in the world.”

Shopping online is a dream too as they curate their offering so you’re not trawling through hundreds of options.

Ascot Chang

Bespoke shirtmaking legend Ascot Chang opened his first outlet on Kimberly Road in Hong Kong in 1953 and has since grown to have stores right across China and the US.

The brand is perhaps most famous for its ‘Ascot collar’, designed to be worn open and without a tie, “standing up naturally with a subtly elegant collar roll”.

Its ultrafine 120s two-ply cotton gives its dress shirts a luxury handle, perfect for modern professionals.

Finamore

This legend of Neapolitan shirtmaking has been at the top of its game ever since it was founded in 1925 and sets the bar for Italian shirt brands.

All handmade and handstitched according to Neapolitan traditions, Finamore uses some super-premium cloths, such as 170s double-twisted Egyptian cotton, as well as beautiful cotton poplin and twill fabrics.

Attolini

It’s fair to say that Cesare Attolini has earned legendary status among Italy’s tailoring community and is widely regarded as one of the country’s finest luxury suit makers, so it’s no surprise that the Attolini shirt is equally as revered.

The Neapolitan master entirely handmakes his shirt collection in the brand’s Naples workshop, ensuring the highest quality garment, perfect for the modern C-suite style aficionado.

Cordone 1956

Cordone 1956 tailoring was founded in Aielli, in 1956 by Luigi Cordone Senior and has since become one of Italy’s premier shirtmakers. To this day, its shirts are still 100% handmade by skilled seamstresses using exclusive fabrics.

Best known for its colorful striped dress shirts, Cordone also produces some stunning seasonal options, including flannel styles in the winter, and linen options in the summer.

Luca Avitabile

Another of the Neapolitan legacy shirtmakers, Luca Avitibile has garnered a reputation for producing some of the finest handmade shirts in the world.

Offering bespoke, made-to-measure and ready-to-wear, Avitibile’s shirt collections are eclectic, encompassing everything from chambray to Madras check button-downs to bread-and-butter formal shirting.

Salvatore Piccolo

Shirtmaking runs in Salvatore Piccolo’s veins, his mother having been a bespoke shirtmaker in the Neapolitan district of Piazza Mercato, and Salvatore himself starting in a shirtmaking factory at the age of 15.

His passion for the business shines through in an eclectic collection of beautiful formal and casual shirts that encompass classic darted styles, Cuban collar shirts, Texan designs and modern overshirts.

Zegna

Vertically integrated, luxury Italian fashion brand Zegna is best known for its innovative merino fabrics that it cuts into beautifully contemporary tailored silhouettes, but it carries that very same level of detail and dedication into its shirtmaking process, too.

Expect to find some of the finest cotton yarns in the business when it comes to its dress shirts, while its more casual ‘Cashco’ shirts consist of 85% cotton and 15% cashmere for an unbelievable handle.

The best luxury casual shirt brands for men

Luca Faloni

Classic Italian luxury meets modern multifunctional menswear at Luca Faloni. The label exclusively uses historic mills and artisans from across Italy but adds modern cuts and design touches to its timeless, great-value collections.

There are 10 signature shirt designs on the rails, from smart button-ups in cotton, linen and cashmere blends, to grandad collar shirts and popovers. Perhaps the brand’s standout feature is its distinctive ‘paramontura’ shirt collar, a spread-out design with a soft curve that is very, very Italian.

Private White V.C.

Known for its hardy but eye-poppingly beautiful menswear, Manchester’s Private White creates shirts you’ll wear year after year. In the winter, its collection includes tough denim styles and workwear-inspired shirts crafted from cord, moleskin and even the occasional cashmere. In summer, it switches codes to breezy linen resort shirts with camp collars.

Each one is crafted by hand in the label’s Manchester factory and the quality is second to none.

LESTRANGE

In its own words, LESTRANGE offers “a simplified and uncomplicated way to dress”. That means to hell with dress codes and in their place a stripped-back, minimalist, low-waste approach to fashion.

So as you might expect, the brand’s shirt collection focuses on the essentials: Oxfords, Cuban collars and grandad collars – all in a wearable palette of neutrals and crafted for easy, comfortable, everyday wear.

Aurelien

Tailored for Mediterranean lifestyles, Aurelian is another label that fuses traditional menswear with modern ideas of luxury. Its button-up department takes classic, easy-wearing designs – such as linen beach shirts or archetypal denim shirts – and gives them a luxury polish.

Incredibly soft and breathable materials are crafted into modern slim-cut shirts available in a summery spectrum of pastel shades.

The Resort Co.

Imagine a going-out shirt designed for five-star resorts on the Med and you’re not far away from The Resort Co’s collection. Founded with the express aim of creating the perfect holiday wardrobe, the luxury resortwear label produces refined but colorful menswear that’s easy to relax in.

The shirts are mostly composed of Terry cloth and linen, perfect for poolside lounging or evening dining. Emerald green and deep caramel shades give a richer palette than many brands, but summer staples like navy, white and olive are also waiting to show off your tan.

ASKET

Scandinavian brand Asket puts sustainability at the forefront of every decision it makes and is incredibly transparent with its production and pricing processes, which makes shopping with them an excellent experience.

Specializing in everyday staples, its casual shirts are great value, especially the button-downs. Cut from brushed mid-weight 100% organic cotton Oxford cloth, milled in Portugal, the OCBDs are an industry benchmark.

Also look at the flannel options, cut from a soft, brushed, custom-developed Italian twill made from 100% organic cotton.

Velasca

To pull off that nonchalant Italian elegance, you need a rounded collection of shirts and a mix of smart and casual styles. Dedicated made-in-Italy label Velasca has you covered. The brand creates everything from plaid flannel shirts to smarter options with cutaway collars. There are also western-style denim shirts and Amalfi-ready linen options.

Stitched by some of Italy’s most respected shirtmakers, each piece is designed and made with an eye on comfort and durability. The armscyes are more generous than usual, giving you greater freedom of movement, while the stitching is often dense to make each garment strong and hard-wearing.

Brooks Brothers

The original and best, Brooks Brothers’ shirts represent excellent value and give you that heritage cachet as the original purveyors of OCBD style.

Naturally, Brooks has a fantastic assortment of shirts, with both slim and regular fits in the classic Oxford cloth as well as several check options in a super-soft flannel cloth, perfect for more outdoorsy looks.

Alex Mill

New York brand Alex Mill was founded by its namesake in 2012 with the goal of making the perfect shirt. And we think it achieved it. The brand’s no-fuss approach to making the best possible versions of menswear staples is a breath of fresh air, elevating traditional workwear pieces into something really special.

Its button-downs come in crisp Portuguese cotton, as well as corduroy and poplin, with chic stripes and bold colors abound.

Brunello Cucinelli

At the very top end of the luxury spectrum is Brunello Cucinelli, whose mastery of fine fabrics extends to his button-down shirt offering. Buttery-soft materials are the DNA of the Italian designer, and so it comes as no surprise to find that Cucinelli presents a casual collection featuring Oxford cloth blended with lyocell, as well as pure cotton flannel, poplin and twill fabrics.

Cut in a slim fit, they are all easy to style with contemporary smart casual wardrobes if you’ve got the wallet for them.

Adsum NYC

Founded in Brooklyn in 2015, Adsum NYC has developed a cult following for its high-quality staples inspired by the cities and countryside of the American Northeast. The brand has put a contemporary spin on classic flannel shirting by using vibrant plaid patterns for its two-button work shirts.

Typically constructed from heavy brush 265 GSM custom flannel, Adsum’s shirts are incredibly soft yet robust – perfect for wearing with selvage denim, chinos, or loungewear pieces.

Club Monaco

Ever since it launched, Club Monaco has nailed that smart, sophisticated Euro-traveller look, focusing on elevated staples and slim silhouettes to create a well-rounded, softly tailored aesthetic that appears more expensive than it is.

A lot of its casual shirts are constructed from Oxford cotton cloth, which is sourced from sustainable farms and represents excellent value for money.

Drake’s

On its OCBD, Drake’s says it best: “With a regular silhouette, floating interlinings, single-needle construction, and – perhaps most importantly – an elegant rolling collar, it’s a shirt for all occasions.”

If you want a perfectly constructed, elevated version of a button-down or flannel shirt, Drake’s is peerless in choice and style.

Hartford

As English as it sounds, Hartford is actually a French brand. Founded in Paris in 1979, Hartford specializes in traditional casual silhouettes in beautiful natural fibers.

Its flannel shirts are at the cornerstone of the brand’s fall/winter collections, producing a number of styles including plaids, gingham and brushed denim options, all of which will perfectly slide into a preppy wardrobe.

Oliver Spencer

Oliver Spencer’s unique take on relaxed tailoring means the British designer always releases several casual shirts each season.

These primarily take the form of button-downs and short-sleeved styles (including interesting Guayabera and Cuban collar versions) rendered in super-soft organic cotton fabrics, including brushed cotton and corduroy in the winter, and a plethora of linen and linen blends in the summer.

Orlebar Brown

The resortwear specialist has significantly expanded its collection since it first launched its now-iconic tailored Bulldog swim shorts, offering an excellent casual shirt offering season after season.

Summer is of course when Orlebar Brown really shines, so check out its awesome range of French terry polos, linen shirts and printed Cuban collars.

Ralph Lauren

As far as casual shirting goes, Ralph’s go-to style is the Oxford button-down, an essential element of the brand’s timeless American Ivy League aesthetic. The legendary designer always delivers the goods with a core collection of preppy shirts in just about every color you can think of via his Polo label.

There is a huge amount of choice – from cotton poplin and denim to twills and brushed styles – and in a variety of fits too. Solid, classic, modern Americana.

His shirt collection never disappoints the fashion crowd, with lots of oversized silhouettes, patchwork detailing and subversive design elements.

King & Tuckfield

Small but perfectly formed, King & Tuckfield is an independent label based out of East London and makes some of the most beautiful contemporary shirts you’ll find anywhere.

It’s perhaps best known for its knitted styles, which are perfect for an elevated summer look. Inspired by a 1950s aesthetic, King & Tuckfield is a unique gem of a brand.

Nanushka

Budapest-based Nanushka was founded in 2006 by Sandra Sándor and has quickly gained prominence and popularity thanks to its focus on craftsmanship, detail and responsible production.

His shirts are always a pleasure to behold, invariably featuring a bold color palette full of vibrant patterns to reinvigorate your wardrobe.

Prada

Sartorial tailoring techniques meet a healthy dose of modernism at Prada, the Italian luxury house that has been at the forefront of the fashion industry since it launched in 1913.

With a focus on traditional shirting silhouettes, it has always been Prada’s use of innovative fabrics that separated it from its contemporaries, so expect plenty of unique blends, from superior cotton and silk to camel hair and recycled nylon.
