Tips for Wearing Your Print Tees

By staff
April 23, 2007

Not having courage to put on that cool print tee you just discovered? Well, join the club. Having said that, there are few things to consider that if done well can make you look just right.

The first tip? Only start with shirts that fit! Anything baggy has got to go, as with anything too long. Aim for a t-shirt that hit right below the belt. If you’re slim, you’ll want to try a shirt with a leaner cut to flatter you. Larger shirts won’t make you look bigger or better.

Secondly, keep away from the logo looks. Corporate emblems and sports team do not count as cool print tees—look for something that’s artistic and visually appealing. Cool fashion graphic tees can be flattering if you find the right one for your personality. Print tees can be found everywhere, from high-end boutiques to skate clothing stores. Hunt around in vintage shops and open air markets to find cool ’70s and ’80s tees.

Got the perfect t-shirts to wear? Now you’ve got to combine them with the rest of the outfit—and this is where the third tip comes into play. Balance your t-shirt with your clothes color wise—it doesn’t have to be the same color like the rest of the outfit, but it does need to either complement or contrast with the rest of the outfit. Beginners will be happiest buying and matching single-color graphics. Picking neutral tees, soft stripes, and subtle prints will allow you more versatility with your wardrobe.

Lastly, sort through your closet and play around with combinations you’ve never tried before. Evaluate each outfit honestly, and you’ll be well on your seemingly impossible mission to look good even while wearing a print tee.
