Choosing a Wallet or Money Clip
Choosing the right wallet or money clip is a decision that combines both your sense of style with your personal needs. You’ll have to take into consideration how many credit cards you carry, the amount of cash you keep on you and the type of attire you wear on a daily basis. Oh, and on top of all this you need to make sure whatever you choose gels with your personal taste.
Don’t panic, choosing the right money-carrying device is easier than you think. First, narrow your choices down. You’ll need to make a fundamental choice between a wallet or money clip. A sterling silver or high-end money clip is great for those who prefer cash. When you pull your stack of money out of your jacket pocket and its encased in precious metal, you are sure to make a great impression.
However, these are not the perfect fit for everyone. A money clip is really made to carry just bills and maybe one or two credit cards. Today’s busy men may have a bundle of credit cards as well as business cards, receipts, etc. For someone like this, a wallet is probably the money-carrying device of choice.
Wallets come in a variety of styles. The classic is the bi-fold wallet. This is a simple leather contraption with a single bill pocket and several credit card/business card slots. It has a single folded crease in the middle that lends it to fit nicely in your back pocket or jacket pocket. You don’t want to overload this with too many cards or bills, as it is fairly limited space wise. Your next step up space wise is the tri-fold wallet.
The tri-fold wallet has the same features as the bi-fold with the addition of a few more credit and business card holders. It’s a little thicker than bi-fold as it is actually folded into three sections. It’s really made for a back pocket and thus is more popular for the blue-collar worker. You can put it in your back pocket and forget about it until you find a need for a credit card or some cash.
Finally, you can combine the best of both worlds with a money clip wallet. These are generally constructed of leather and often have some type of magnetic closure for the money clip. They usually don’t feature as many credit card and business card holder, probably 3 or 4, but they are generally thinner and easier to carry. They are perfect if you just want to carry your ID, one or two credit cards and a few bills to get you through your day.
